What Is Discernment?

Discernment of your vocation means discovering what God has planned for your life. He has created you to love Him and be loved by Him, be He also has a specific purpose for your life! Discernment involves growing in virtue and holiness, learning to pray, discovering important things about yourself (personality, talents, desires, etc.) and finding out how God wants to use you to spread His grace and mercy throughout the world!

What Do I Do Now?

It all depends on your situation. If you’ve been working at growing in holiness and discovering what God has planned for your life, you’re on the right path! The best thing to do if you’re uncertain of your next move in discernment is to contact the Vocation Office, especially if you think you may be called by God to the Priesthood or Religious Life.

Prayer to Know My Vocation

Lord, my God and my loving Father, you have made me to know you, to love you, to serve you, and thereby to find and to fulfill my deepest longings. I know that you are in all things, and that every path can lead me to you.

But of them all, there is one especially by which you want me to come to you. Since I will do what you want of me, I pray you, send your Holy Spirit to me: into my mind, to show me what you want of me; into my heart, to give me the determination to do it, and to do it with all my love, with all my mind, and with all of my strength right to the end. Jesus, I trust in you. Amen
